Monoeye

Overview

These bizarre aliens (Martians?) guarded the Ten Commandments of Moses, an alien artifact that had the power to turn humans into zombies. Six of them appeared as a mini-boss in Mission 2 of Metal Slug 3.

Standard attack: Four energy balls from its eye. Will angle downwards to hit short enemies, or go straight forward to hit tall enemies. Despite the ingame stats, this attack has rather poor range (closer to 'Normal').

Special attack: Eight energy balls from its eye. Same targeting mechanism as the standard attack. If no grounded targets are in sight, the balls fly straight forward and may hit certain airborne targets. Much more range than the standard attack.

Tactics

As of version 1.32.0, Monoeye is no longer recommended due to the ubiquity of Slug Gigant.

Of all 'boss' units, Monoeye has the worst HP: only 3750, which is worse than some cheaper early-game units. Its damage is reasonable but not particularly outstanding. Monoeye's strength lies in its production rate, which is unusually fast considering its HP. Unfortunately, it also has extremely low knockback resistance: any decently strong hit sends it flying backwards, often interrupting the slow special attack. Its standard attack has poor range, which results it in getting into the fray before dying swiftly or being knocked back again. When sent out carelessly in the midgame, Monoeye also is a huge AP feed due to its low HP and high cost. Thus, it is not often seen in competitive play. Some advantages of Monoeye are outlined below.

  • Both the standard and special attacks involve bullets starting from a high location. When targeting tall units, especially Stone Turtle or Crablops, the bullets fly straight forward and will not be canceled by Mature, Robert or King. Even when angled down, a few bullets will usually get through Robert or King's specials.
  • For the same reason, the bullets can hit certain air units, but this is limited to a few units such as Hunter Walker and MH-6s.
  • In a U.F.O affiliation deck, Monoeye helps with two of the deck's main weakness: a lack of endgame push and slow production rates for most of its units.

When using Monoeye, do not send out large amounts in the midgame. One is enough. It is mostly an endgame unit.
